The Pirkanmaa Westcome Adult Education Unit has participated in a number of European Social Fund projects as a partner or co-ordinator. Many of them have emphasized on developing programmes of using internet technology which supports the professional development of those providing lifelong learning. The design of course materials has played an important role in the projects. The aim of the material has been mostly to give the participants a practical toolbox which they have designed individually to face their own needs with the help of co-students and trainers. On the other hand. there has been made different kind of distance learning material by the educators for on-line study for those who want to study at home or at work. The experience of designing web material has strengthened the professional skills of the trainers of the Unit and contributed to new partnerships in European projects.

Furthermore, The Adult Education Unit has developed genero-pedagogy in transnational projects as well. The seniors have been taught by the young trainers. It has been investigated how the seniors learn and this will be developed further in cooperation with other European projects.
